Post and Panel Repair

The timber framed cottage in Dunsfold suffered from a modern extension and poorly designed gutting system. At the intersection of the extension water was getting into the panels painted with non-breathable paints, this had resulted in the premature deterioration of the corner post.

Luckily this had all happened in the smoke bay which had subsequently been bricked up when the chimney was built. This meant the removing the offending panels to repair the corner post and re-instate its sole plate could be done with  minimum interference with the couple living in the house.

The repairs were made to the timbers with the well seasoned oak and the brick panels re-instated using lime mortar. It was also necessary to remove the Portland cement render on the gable end and renew all the lead flashing at the intersection of the old and new parts of the building. Lastly we rendered the exterior wall that takes the downpipe with lime render and reinstalled the rest of the rainwater products.
