Limecrete Floor with Underfloor Heating

The client had a 17th century cottage with original brick floor, unfortunately the bricks had been laid directly on the earth and it was in a very bad way. The cottage was near a stream and so very close to the level of the water table and potentially prone to flooding.

We dug out the concrete floor to a depth below the desired floor height, measuring to make sure we had it completely level. We use the Sublime limecrete system from Ty-Mawr, so first we put down a geotextile fleece and on top of that goes the Glapor foamed glass insulation. This layer is then compressed with a compactor and checked to be absolutely level again before another layer of fleece, the heating tubes are laid out and the limecrete slab is poured on top.

Many of the bricks were broken but we were able to save enough from the two down stairs rooms to re-lay one of the rooms, the other being floored with bought reclaimed brick
